Understanding ADHD

ADHD is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders in children. It affects how a child thinks, learns, and behaves, impacting their ability to focus, follow through with tasks, and regulate their impulses. ADHD can look different from one child to another, but it typically involves three main categories of symptoms: inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity.

Signs of ADHD in Children:

1. Inattention:Children with ADHD may struggle to focus on tasks or activities for long periods. Signs of inattention can include:● Easily distracted by external stimuli or their own thoughts.● Difficulty following through with instructions or completing tasks.● Frequently losing items, such as school supplies or toys.● Forgetfulness in daily activities (e.g., chores, homework).2. Hyperactivity:Hyperactivity is often noticeable as excessive energy or restlessness. Children with ADHD may exhibit:● Fidgeting or squirming in their seats.● Inability to sit still, especially during quiet or structured activities.● Constantly moving or running around, even in inappropriate settings.● Difficulty staying seated at school or during meals.3. Impulsivity:Impulsivity refers to difficulty controlling immediate reactions or behaviors. Impulsive behaviors may include:● Interrupting others during conversations.● Difficulty waiting their turn in games or group settings.● Acting without considering the consequences of their actions.● Blurting out answers before questions are fully asked.

How ADHD Affects Children:

ADHD can impact many aspects of a child’s life, including:● Academic Performance: Children may struggle with staying organized, completing assignments, and maintaining focus during class.● Social Interactions: Impulsivity and hyperactivity can make it harder for children to form lasting friendships or engage in appropriate social behaviors.● Family Dynamics: ADHD symptoms can create tension at home, leading to challenges with discipline, frustration, and communication.

    Diagnostic Appointment

    What to Expect

Diagnosing ADHD is a collaborative and thorough process. During your child’s initial appointment, we take time to:● Review your child’s developmental, medical, and family history.● Discuss any challenges they may be facing at home, school, or in social settings.● Complete standardized behavioral questionnaires.
We use Creyos ADHD Testing, an FDA-cleared digital assessment tool designed to provide objective insights into ADHD symptoms. Utilizing advanced technology, it measures cognitive functions such as attention, focus, and impulse control through interactive tasks. The assessment is quick, non-invasive, and delivers accurate results that aid in diagnosing and managing ADHD in both children and adults.
What to Expect at Your Diagnostic Appointment:● Initial consultation (approximately 60 minutes).● Behavioral observations and input from caregivers and teachers (if applicable).● Completion of Creyos ADHD Testing, which takes about 15–20 minutes.
Follow-Up:After testing, we will review the results with you, explain the diagnosis (if confirmed), and discuss a customized treatment plan that may include behavioral strategies, school accommodations, and/or medication management.
